Learn More About The SKIIP Program
The SKIIP ProgramSKIIP is a Child focused program that is based within the NAMI Family of Marion and Crawford Counties organization. Affiliated with NAMI Ohio and NAMI National, this not-for-profit group works with the caregivers of school aged children with brain difference and/or disorder challenges. Nationwide ... NAMI represents 250,000+ members ... 50 state organizations ... 1000+ local affiliates.

SKIIP offers you a website ... skiip.org ... that has a wealth of information accessible to all, Parents, Caregivers and Teachers. Our website gives you important internet resources. You will better understand childhood onset illnesses of the brain ... and ... You are not alone in your Family's journey.

With a better understanding of your child and his/her illness, your acceptance will soon follow. Your family will confidently move forward in providing the appropriate response in meeting your child's needs. Teacher + Family = Partnership = Student's Success in school!!!

We attended the "Shared Agenda Policy Makers" Forum - Mental Health, Schools and Families Working Together for Ohio's Children held in Columbus, in March of 2003. Sponsored jointly by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and the Ohio Department of Education, the agenda centered around mutually shared Principles, and Goals.

Principle #1: Mental Health is crucial to school success.

Principle #2: There are shared opportunities for mental health, schools and families to work together more effectively.

Goal #1: Develop a common understanding among education, mental health, families and other stakeholders of key shared agenda concepts related to the critical links between mental health and school success.

Goal #2: Identify, expand and implement evidence based practices that support the critical links between mental health and school success; identify "Star" schools demonstrating the essential elements of the critical link.

Goal #3: Positively influence allocations for public education and mental health systems at the state and local levels.

Goal #4: Positively influence the State Budget.

Goal #5: Expand Ohio's capacity to support mental health in schools through pre b-service and in-service education, training and professional development.

In support of these Principles and Goals, SKIIP has come to life. SKIIP exists as a vital resource for parents, caregivers and teachers.

We know you and your child's teacher will find SKIIP to be a creditable resource for leading your family forward. Personal experience has demonstrated to us, the student's learning environment (school and home) will improve once your family, and your child's teacher, find the appropriate information ... the personal support ... your child, your family, and your teacher, deserves.
